Sandy Police arrested 20 year old Brandon Anthony Teal, of Sandy, today after he was found at Sandy High School in possession of a concealed handgun. Teal went to Sandy High School with his 18 year old brother to inquire about enrollment at about 2:00 PM today. Immediately upon them entering, school security officers recognized they were not students, confronted the two men and notified the school resource officer. While asking the two why they were there, school officials and the SRO smelled marijuana and asked about it. The two men accompanied staff to a conference room away from students, who had been released from classes for the day at 1:45 PM.
When he was asked if he had anything he shouldn't, Teal produced two knives. The SRO asked to search the Teal and he produced a third knife. The SRO conducted an officer safety pat down and found a loaded .22 caliber revolver in Teal's waistband. Teal was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm. During his interview, Mr. Teal said he had been carrying the gun for protection following an incident a few weeks earlier somewhere else. He stated he had no intention to harm students. Teal's 18 year old brother did have an appointment regarding enrollment that day at 10:30 AM, but said they thought the appointment was at 1:30 PM.
Brandon Teal was taken to the Clackamas County Jail, where he was to be held on $7,500 bail and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
