Washington County Sheriff's Deputies serving the city of Cornelius responded to a disturbance at a residence. Sheriff's Deputies arrived and the situation escalated rapidly, forcing the deputies to respond with lethal force.

On April 7, 2016, at 8:03 p.m., Sheriff's Deputies were called to a residence on South 25th Avenue by a neighbor who reported that a male was breaking windows and damaging his property. Sheriff's Deputies arrived and contacted the resident who had an active felony warrant.

The man was uncooperative. The man's behavior caused the situation to escalate rapidly, forcing the deputies to respond with lethal force. At least one shot was fired by Sheriff's Deputies. The man was continually uncooperative and refused to exit the house to receive medical care. Sheriff's Deputies persisted and, after about an hour and a half, the man came out of the house and was taken into custody. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.

The Washington County Major Crimes Team is investigating the incident. They were assisted by the Oregon State Police Forensics Unit to process the scene and collect evidence.

There is limited additional information, including the man's name, which cannot be released at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.
