LEBANON, Oregon - Firefighters responded to an unconscious man pinned in a tractor by a felled tree in the 38000 block of Payne Drive Wednesday morning. The Lebanon Fire District was dispatched at 9:29 am for a male who had been using his Kubota tractor to help direct a 35-foot aspen tree away from a house while another man used a chainsaw to fall the tree. As the trunk was being cut it snapped unexpectedly, falling directly onto the 77-year old man operating the tractor.
According to Lebanon Fire District Lieutenant Jason Bolen, the tree struck the man in the head and upper body, knocking him unconscious and pinning him to the seat of his tractor. The tractor then rolled backwards down Payne Drive approximately 30 feet before coming to rest in front of a residence.
Firefighters extricated the victim, who had regained consciousness, and transported him to Lebanon Community Hospital for evaluation of multiple traumatic injuries. Five Lebanon Fire District apparatus and 8 fire personnel responded to the incident and were assisted by the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
