PORTLAND, Oregon - This morning at about 1:30 AM, North Precinct police responded to I-5 northbound at Lombard Street on the report of a pedestrian struck by a driver.
Officers and medical personnel arrived and located the 25-year-old male pedestrian suffering from traumatic injuries. Medical efforts to save him were no successful and he died at the scene.
The involved driver, a 39-year-old male, remained at the scene and was cooperative. He did not show any signs of impairment. He was driving a 2006 Toyota Avalon.
The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responded and began an investigation into the crash.
Investigators learned that the driver was traveling northbound on I-5 when he struck the pedestrian on the freeway. Officers believe the pedestrian may have been crossing the freeway westbound when he was hit.
No arrests were made at the scene and the case remains an open investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be presented to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review, per standard procedure.
