On March 18, 2016, a witness reported a non-injury crash involving two vehicles on South Palmetto Way, Cornelius. Warren Fleming, age 51 of Cornelius was upset about a 2005 Toyota Tundra being parked in front of his house. He decided to hook the Toyota up to his 2002 Dodge Dakota using a large chain and tow the Toyota away from where it was parked.

The Toyota truck came loose while being towed and crashed into a neighbor's front lawn on South Palmetto Way. A palm tree prevented the Toyota from crashing into the house. Several neighbors witnessed the incident. The witnesses reported that Mr. Fleming then quickly drove his Dodge back into his driveway and ran into his house prior to deputies arriving.

Deputies say that when they arrived and made contact with Mr. Fleming, he fought with them before being taken into custody. He was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest. Mr. Fleming was lodged in the Washington County Jail.
