On March 14, 2016 shortly after 6:00 PM, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Deputies and Milwaukie Police Officers responded to a citizen report of a stolen vehicle on SE Silver Springs Rd off SE McLoughlin Blvd. In the midst of that investigation, Milwaukie Police were alerted to a different vehicle in the area and began a pursuit after the driver failed to yield. The pursuit traveled to McLoughlin Blvd at SE Vineyard Rd where a PIT maneuver was used to stop the stolen vehicle. During the PIT maneuver and due to the suspect's continued evasive maneuvers, a crash occurred between the suspect vehicle and a Clackamas County Deputy's patrol car. The crash caused minor injuries to the Deputy. Both the male and female suspects were taken into custody.
The initial caller, who was the owner of the first stolen vehicle, reported a male attempted to steal his pickup truck while accompanied by a female. The caller pulled the suspect out of the driver seat and out of the vehicle. The female suspect moved over to the driver seat and attempted to drive away, but she crashed the victim's vehicle into a telephone pole. During the victim's altercation with the male suspect outside the car, the suspect reached around his waistband and threatened to shoot the victim. The victim gave chase on foot southbound on McLoughlin Blvd as the suspects ran away, but he lost sight of the suspects as they ran around a motel structure.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Deputies requested the assistance of the Milwaukie Police Department during the area check for the suspects. Milwaukie Police Officers located at least one individual who matched the description of the suspects and then were alerted to a vehicle leaving a car sales lot. Milwaukie Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away.
The Deputies and Officers gave chase and a controlled PIT maneuver was attempted near the intersection of McLoughlin Blvd and Vineyard Rd. Near the conclusion of the PIT maneuver and due to the suspect's continued driving behavior in his attempt to elude, the suspect caused a Clackamas County Deputy's patrol car to crash into the suspect's vehicle. The Deputy sustained minor injuries (complaint of pain) during the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Almost simultaneously, another Clackamas County Deputy near the original stolen vehicle location contacted the owner of the suspect's vehicle and confirmed it too was stolen.
Both suspects in the second stolen vehicle matched the description of the suspects from the report of the first stolen vehicle. They were both taken into custody and the male suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The Oregon State Police responded to investigate the crash. No names will be released at this time.
Thanks to the victim's quick and accurate report via 911, the capture of the suspects was successful. Additionally, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Milwaukie Police Department and the Oregon State Police for their assistance during the investigation.
