Marion County CRASH Team Investigating Fatal Crash ***Update***

Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office have completed their investigations into last night's fatal motor vehicle crash. Deputies believe that Jessica Macken, age 36, of Amity was driving her 2002 Kia Sportage, East on Nusom Road when she failed to negotiate a sweeping right hand corner. Ms. Macken drove into the oncoming lane colliding head on with a 1994 Geo Metro driven by Phillip Rivera, age 52, of Salem.

After hitting the first vehicle Ms. Macken car then struck a second vehicle head on. That vehicle a 2001 Honda Civic was being driven Marion Pacheco Jr., age 24, of Silverton. Mr. Rivera and Mr. Pacheco are both co-workers at Highland Laboratories in Mt. Angel. Mr. Pacheco, Ms. Macken and her two children ages 10 and 13 were transported to the Silverton Hospital with minor injuries. Tragically Mr. Rivera died at the scene.

After a lengthy investigation Deputies arrested Ms. Macken for the crimes of Manslaughter II, DUII, Reckless driving, Reckless Endangering x3 and Assault IV x3. Deputies do suspect that marijuana use was a contributing factor to the crash.

Deputies on scene of a three vehicle traffic crash with multiple injuries and one fatality. At approximately 1445 hours on Friday 3/11/16, deputies responded to the area of Nusom Rd NE and Howell Prairie Rd NE on a report of a three vehicle head on crash. Deputies arrived to find the road completely blocked by the involved vehicles.

A total of 5 occupants were involved in the crash. One driver was deceased at the scene and the other 4 involved occupants were transported by ambulance to Silverton Hospital due to their injuries.

The Marion County CRASH Team with the assistance of Oregon State Police Troopers are on scene investigating to determine what caused the accident. Initial information indicates drugs or alcohol maybe involved.

The name of the involved occupants are not being released until family members have been notified. A follow up release will be sent out once there is additional information as well as photographs of the crash scene are available.
