TIGARD, Oregon - The Tigard Police Department says that for several years, they have been working with the U.S. Department of Justice to obtain the extradition of Homicide Suspect Luis Hernandez-Diaz, 46, from Mexico.
Recently, the extradition request was granted and Hernandez-Diaz arrived in the U.S. on March 8, 2016. Hernandez-Diaz is currently lodged at the Washington County Jail. This effort stems from a homicide that occurred in the parking lot of Burger King located at 11539 SW Pacific Hwy in Tigard on February 2, 1999 in which Maria Garcia-Leonardo was stabbed, resulting in her death.
Hernandez-Diaz has gone by numerous aliases and may be familiar to some as: Efrain Sanchez Diaz (may be his true name), Luis Hernandez, Luis Diaz, Luis Hernandez-Diaz, Efrain Diaz, Jesus Sanchez Diaz. Although it has been many years since this homicide occurred, anyone with information related to this case or is familiar with Luis Hernandez-Diaz is urged to contact Tigard Police Detectives at 503-639-6168.
