PORTLAND, Oregon - High winds this evening and early Thursday. Winds should be southwest 40 to 60 mph with gusts 60 to 80 mph.
The National Weather Service has posted a wind advisory for the valleys today with south winds gusting to a possible 40 mph. But that's nothing compared to what the Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington coast will get today. A high wind warning is in effect for those areas beginning this afternoon and lasting through the night.
Coastal offshore winds could gust to 90 mph and onshore, and in the coast range, gusts are expected of 50-65 mph. The warning includes mention of the possibility of trees down, loss of power, property damage and hazardous driving for high profile vehicles.
There is also a winter weather advisory for the Cascades. Dropping snow levels this morning will allow for 4-8 more inches of snow to fall at the passes. This will be short-lived as the snow level will rise quickly this afternoon to 5000 feet.
