Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate a single vehicle motor vehicle crash that occurred less than a mile north of Corvallis. The crash resulted in serious injuries to three people and minor injuries to another person.
At about 4:50 am, on Thursday, March 3, 2016, Nicole Altheide, age 21, from Portland, Oregon, was driving westbound on Highway 20, about 1,000 feet north of the intersection Conifer Blvd., in a 2004 Toyota Sonata Minivan. She drove off the highway for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a very large tree. The minivan was heavily damaged and came to rest on its roof, in the yard of a residence. Laura Gorzynski, age 21, from Corvallis, Oregon, Aaron Byers, age 21, from Corvallis, Oregon, and Samuel Van Dyke, age 22, from Philomath, Oregon were passengers in the minivan.
All four people extricated themselves from the vehicle. All were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis by an ambulance from the Corvallis Fire Department. Nicole Altheide, Laura Gorzynski, and Aaron Byers had serious injuries. Samuel Van Dyke had minor injuries. Alcohol and drugs may have been factors in the crash. Deputies are continuing to investigate the crash and the public is asked to contact Deputy Brian Lundy at 541-766-6858 if they have any information. The highway was not closed during the investigation.
