29-Year-Old Astoria Man Dies In Highway 30 Crash In Clatsop County

ASTORIA, Oregon - On Monday at about at about 5:20 PM, two cars were involved in a head-on crash on 30 about 20 miles east of Astoria.

A 2003 Ford Focus was traveling eastbound on Highway 30 when it drifted onto the shoulder. The driver lost control, crossed over into the westbound lane of travel, and struck a 2013 Ford Fusion head-on.

The driver of the Focus, Randall T HAINES, age 29, of Astoria, was pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver of the Fusion, Edward D LEVICK, age 66, and his passenger Nydia A LEVICK, age 97 (both of Sequim, Washington) were transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria. Nydia LEVICK was then taken by air ambulance to Oregon Health & Science University for life threatening injuries.

Highway 30 was closed in both directions for over three hours. OSP was assisted by the Knappa Fire Department, Medix Ambulance, Clatsop County Medical Examiner, Clatsop County Sherriff's Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The crash is still under investigation and more information will be released when it becomes available.
