SILVERTON, Oregon - Last night, just after 9:00 p.m., Timothy Rentschler, age 20, a Willamette University student called the Oregon State Police and reported that he was lost and needed help. After being unable to find Mr. Rentschler the Oregon State Police requested assistance from the Marion County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Teams.
"Cold and wet, but okay", that is how Search and Rescue Members are describing Timothy Rentschler after he walked out on his own, after being lost overnight. Mr. Rentschler has been reunited with his family and is preparing to drive home.
The Sheriff's Office would like to thank all of its Search and Rescue members as well as the Oregon State Police and media for their assistance during the search.
Before his was found, Rentschler was believed to have been somewhere on the Buck Mountain Trail Loop, inside of Silver Falls State Park. Searchers on ATV and horseback searched the area attempting to locate him. He had been equipped for a day hike only and his cell phone had died because the battery had ran out of power.
