BEAVERTON, Oregon - On Saturday, at approximately 12:30 p.m. a witness at Powerline Park near SW Davis Road and SW 160th Avenue reported to police that a young female on the trail had been grabbed from behind, trying to take her to the ground. The witness yelled at the suspect to stop and get on the ground. The witness held the suspect until police arrived.
The suspect was identified as Dakota Michael Vernon, 23 years old from Beaverton. The 15 year old victim female told police she was walking on the path when Vernon grabbed her around the waist from behind and then grabber her bottom. She was able to push Vernon away and then ran up the path. The victim told police that she had seen Vernon and had a bad feeling, but felt safe since there were other people on the path and walked past him.
While police were investigating this incident they were contacted by an adult female about Vernon trying to grab her about 30 minutes earlier in the same area. This female told police she was walking in the park and saw Vernon standing in the grass with a strange look on his face. As she passed him she heard loud footsteps behind her and turned around. Once she turned she saw Vernon was one to two feet behind her and she yelled at him then ran away. A 14 year old female had reported a suspicious man in the same area the day prior and we believe it was Vernon.
Vernon was arrested and is currently in the Washington County Jail. The Beaverton Police Department is concerned that there might be more victims of unwanted physical contact from Vernon. If you have any information related to a similar incident like this involving Vernon you are asked to call the Beaverton Police at (503) 629-0111.
