The woman who died in today's auto-pedestrian crash is identified as Vicky Stroh of Lake Oswego. Traffic investigators determined that Stroh was attempting to cross Hwy 217 without heed to the pedestrian crosswalk signal. No citations have been issued at this time. The investigation remains active.
Tigard Police were called to the intersection of NB Hwy217 at I-5 SB at approximately 5:30 a.m. this morning (020816) on reports of a pedestrian struck at the location. A 41 year-old Lake Oswego woman died at the scene. The victim was attempting to cross Hwy217 from south to north when she was struck by a pickup traveling from SB Hwy217 to SB I-5. The victim was in the crosswalk however it appears that the pedestrian control device was not activated. In addition, the victim appears to possibly have been walking distracted as evidence indicates she may have been wearing a personal listening device at the time.
The driver of the pickup remained on scene and is fully cooperating with investigators. The driver was not injured. Washington County CART was called to the scene to assist with the crash investigation.
