Kidnapped 15-Year-Old Nichole Cable Died Of Asphyxia

Wednesday November 12, 2014    8:55 AM

AUGUSTA, Maine —The state medical examiner's office says a 15-year-old from Glenburn died last month of "asphyxia due to compression of the neck".

Kyle Dube, 20, of Orono, has been charged with the murder of Nichole Cable.

Her body was found in a wooded area in Glenburn on May 20 after she was reported missing on May 12.

Detective Thomas Pickering of the state police said in an affidavit that Dube pretended to be another person on Facebook to contact Cable and she agreed to meet with him on May 12 to get marijuana. He jumped out of bushes and put duct tape on her before loading her in his father's pickup truck.

But when he took her from the truck, she was dead, the affidavit said. Dube's brother Dustin repeated to investigators what Kyle said to him, which was that he intended to kidnap her and hide her in order that he would later find Cable and be the hero.

A witness said that Dube had wanted to have sex with Cable but she refused his advances.

Dube buried the body in woods near the Dysart's gas station in Old Town. He also told his girlfriend where he had left the body, the affidavit said.

The state medical examiner's office released the autopsy information after consulting with the state police crime lab, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
