ROANOKE, Virginia: - Two employees of a local CBS affiliate were shot and killed live on air near Roanoke Virginia this morning. They were Adam Ward, 27, a camerman, and Alison Parker, 24, a reporter.

Suspect takes own life

A third victim, who was being interviewed at the time of the shooting, was shot in the back and is in hospital.

Becky Coyner with dispatch and records at the Augusta County Sheriff's Office says the suspect is 41-year-old Vester Lee Flanagan II, of Roanoke.

It appears that the suspect fired approximately 8 shots from a semi-automatic pistol. The FBI have joined the investigation.

"My father isn’t an issue. He is a person. He is a human being."

When Oahu, Hawaii-based photographer Diana Kim saw her father for the first time in years, he was standing on a street corner, staring at the asphalt below.

He didn't acknowledge her presence.

Kim's father was struggling with mental illness, had been homeless for some time and didn't recognize her. Try as she might, she could not get his attention.

"I could tell it was him by his posture and of course, his face," she told The Huffington Post. "He had a distinct way of standing and walking" -- a gait that family members had told her was similar to her own.

Manzanita, Oregon — The first trip to the coast 5-year-old Golden Retriever Dood will also be his last. This first and last trip will be to attend his owner's wedding,

Cassidy Williams, friend and owner of Dood, said Dood was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer on his skull in July.

Williams said she had plans to get married on Aug. 7 and that her dog Dood had planned to stay with family in Utah while she and her future husband got married on the Oregon Coast.

Because of Dood’s diagnosis, they both decided to change her plans so the Dood could be with them at the wedding.
